We rise to protect human dignity, defending the rights of all people and striving for a world where no one suffers the pain of gender-based violence.
Our Vision
To promote and protect the human rights of all individuals, ensuring freedom from gender –based violence.
Our Aim
The main goal of CSN-AGBV is to unite the efforts of sisters to combat gender-based violence and protect human rights in communities across Tanzania
Our History
The Catholic Sisters Network Against Gender-Based Violence in Tanzania. (CSN-AGBV) was established on December 20, 2024, by Immaculate Heart Sisters of Africa in Musoma Diocese. CSN-AGBV completed its registration under the Non-Governmental Organizations under Registration Act, No. 24 of 2002, receiving registration number OONGO|R|8318, and headquarters are located in Makoko, Musoma (Temporary Location), Tanzania. The founders of CSN-AGBV include: Agnes Bhoke Africanus, Mary Paul Magweiga, Scholastica Philipo Mathias, Faustina Murice Nkoronko, Susana Ndoti Kiendi Maria Annunciata Chacha, and Agnesi Egidi Kilosa. Before CSN-AGBV was established, the IHSA Congregation collaborated with other organizations such as the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent De Paul sisters Masanga, Holy Spirit Sisters Convent (Mugumu Parish), Evangelizing Sisters of Mary -Nyamongo Parish, Jipe Moyo Centre, and Baraki Sisters Farm to provide education on gender-based violence, particularly female genital mutilation (FGM) in the Mara region.
We educate the community about the harms of FGM through schools, government leaders, local leaders, religious leaders, and community groups, including youth and small entrepreneurship groups.
When implementing the TFGM project, we discovered many other challenges related to gender-based violence, such as rape, Earl Marriage, child labor, violence against women, discrimination against vulnerable groups including elderly and people with disabilities. These issues influenced the IHSA Congregation, to establish the Catholic Sisters Network Against Gender-Based Violence in Tanzania to strengthen collective efforts against gender-based violence and human rights violations in the Mara region and other regions of Tanzania, mostly starting with FGM.
